This sketch shows the impressively large garden bed between the house and the sidewalk. The bed is over 25 feet deep!
In order to fill such a large space, I've divided the garden beds into sections and repeated the same plant in large swaths to create "fields". I compare this to color blocking in interior design.
I wanted to blend a very modern look with the house’s farmhouse architecture so I leveraged a combination of soft and hard textures. The color scheme was inspired by plantings that already exist in other areas of the client’s landscape. A dramatic piece of garden art creates a focal point that also takes up visual space to fill the area.
