These clients specifically asked for a garden that wouldn't require all of their time and attention. We gave them plants that will stay small without pruning and that will perform in their specific soil type. Dwarf plants that don't require pruning stay small even at their full grown size. Not surprisingly, they are small when they first come from the nursery too! The plants you see in these images are small right now, but will perfectly fill the space at their mature size. The homeowners won't have to start aggressively maintaining their landscape in five years.
This install was done right at the beginning of August. The homeowners did a great job getting everything established despite the moderate drought we had at the end of the season.
We also installed a tree screen with dimension and interest. This screen features evergreens with different colors, textures, and forms as well as a few flowering plants with spring, summer, and fall interest. The pyramidal green giant arborvitaes are going to the workhorses for this tree screen. They'll grow quickly and are strategically placed to provide ample privacy while the other plants fill in. As the trees fill in and shade the ground, mulch will no longer be required.
